Damascus, 10 November 2021 (TDI): The Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and UAE Foreign Minister Sheykh Abdullah Bin Zayed met in Damascus, today. It was the first-ever visit of any high Emirati official to Syria in the past 11 years.

Assad praises UAE’s approach
Assad expressed his admiration for the change in UAE’s stance towards Syria. He termed it a ‘correct and objective position’ towards Syria.
Earlier, the Emirati Economic Ministry announced that representatives of both countries decided to enhance economic and trade linkages during meetings at the sidelines of Dubai Expo 2020. The official Twitter account of the Emirati Economic Ministry stated that new sectors will be enhanced through future cooperation.
UAE, Syria agree to increase partnership
An official statement issued by the Syrian Presidency mentioned that both leaders discussed ways to enhance bilateral ties and commercial partnerships.
The UAE Foreign Office also released a press statement regarding the first-ever visit of a high UAE official to Syria in over a decade.
‘Security, Stability and Unity’
UAE had reopened its embassy in Syria three years ago. Reuters reports that UAE has signaled the Arab States to grant Arab League membership to Syria. AP News reports that Syria also seeks to address its post-war reconstruction needs as well as gain relief during sanctions.
Emirati Foreign Minister led a huge delegation to Syria. UAE’s state-run WAM News Agency stated that UAE has expressed keen interest in ‘security, stability and unity of Syria.’
