Dubai, 16 December 2021 (TDI): The Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met the top diplomats of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Çavuşoğlu met with the Vice President of UAE, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum in Dubai. Maktoum is also the ruler of the Emirate of Dubai.

The Foreign Minister of Turkey later also met UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Turkey’s Ambassador to Abu Dhabi, Tugay Tuncer and Turkish Consul General to Dubai, Mustafa Ilker Kilic also accompanied the Turkish Foreign Minister.

UAE & Turkey to develop Economic & Commercial Relations

Çavuşoğlu stressed that Turkey seeks to further develop economic and commercial relations with the UAE. The visit comes at a time when both countries have sought to deepen cooperation.

The diplomats of both countries discussed bilateral relations. Çavuşoğlu also met the Turkish business community residing in Dubai, the region’s trade as well as the tourism hub.

He emphasised that this community plays a huge and significant role in developing commercial ties with the UAE. Regarding the meeting, Çavuşoğlu stated that both countries will further develop economic and commercial relations.

The two Foreign Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish coordination and cooperation between the Turkish Foreign Ministry Diplomacy Academy and Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy.

UAE, Turkey to pursue Common Frameworks

The visit comes after both countries signed deals in Ankara last month. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan had then highlighted that the accords finalised in the talks would herald a ‘new era’ in mutual relations. Erdogan said that he intends to pay a visit to Abu Dhabi and Dubai in February 2022.

The Dubai Media Office issued a press statement regarding the meeting. It stated that Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met Çavuşoğlu.

The dignitaries agreed to strengthen cooperation as well as to develop frameworks in order to collaborate in all areas of common interest. Apart from UAE, Turkey has also moved forward to mend frayed ties with Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
