Hague, 22 February 2024 (TDI): Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, serving as the Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN, advocated for the realization of the Palestinian people’s self-determination rights and endorsed the two-state solution.

This advocacy took place during her leadership of the United Arab Emirates delegation at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) launched hearings in the case of Israel’s policies and practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), including East Jerusalem.

On the third of the hearings, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) appeared before the ICJ to advocate of two-state solution.

Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN, Lana Nusseibeh advocated for Palestinians’ self-determination rights and a two-state solution.

She emphasized the importance of ICJ’s advisory opinion in the context of a two-state solution.

Moreover, she underscored that Israel’s action threatens a two-state solution implementation.

Furthermore, she discussed the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip and violations in the West Bank including the increase of settlement construction and settler violence.

Nusseibeh emphasized the necessity for international law to be universally applied. In doing so, she underscored the UAE’s belief in the ICJ’s obligation to assess clear evidence presented before it and to determine the legal ramifications of the conflict.

She concluded her speech by emphasizing the importance of ICJ’s advisory opinion to a lasting solution. The UAE remains steadfast in its commitment to peace, justice, and realization of the rights of the Palestinian people.

The public hearing came after the UN General Assembly requested getting advisory opinion from ICJ.

Fifty-two countries and three international organizations will appear before the court to discuss Israel’s policies and practices in the OPT. Noteworthy, this hearing is separate from the case submitted by the South African Republic to ICJ.
