Islamabad, 22 March 2022 (TDI): Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a bilateral summit with Rashid Meredov, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 48th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad, today. The two counterparts conveyed contentment at the state of bilateral ties.

The 48th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is being held in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The theme of the 48th CFM is Building Partnerships for Unity, Justice, and Development. The Summit will last for two days from March 22 to 23, 2022.

Likewise, they also deliberated upon growing collaboration in a myriad of fields, including coordination at regional and global platforms. Foreign Minister Qureshi on his part underlined Pakistan’s “Vision Central Asia” policy.

Pakistan is committed to enhancing engagement with Central Asian states for constructing a sustainable, result-oriented, and long-term partnership. Along these lines, he underscored the necessity for greater cooperation between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.

This cooperation will be in the domains of people-to-people exchanges, trade and investment, and enhanced connectivity. Shah Mahmood Qureshi also stressed that peace and stability in Afghanistan were paramount for greater economic integration and regional connectivity.

He accentuated the significance of productive engagement by the global community, including regional states, to meet the urgent humanitarian and economic essentials of the Afghan people.

The duo also evaluated the energy and connectivity projects between Pakistan and Turkmenistan. These projects can prospectively transform the region into an epicenter of regional trade.

The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Turkmenistan acquiesced to maintain contact and hold periodic exchanges for further cementing bilateral ties between their respective countries.
