London: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, as well as members of the British Parliament’s House of Lords and House of Commons and discussed the scope of their bilateral relations, on Thursday.
Following these high-level consultations, both leaders formally signed a “Strategic Partnership Framework Document” to solidify their commitment to shared diplomatic and economic objectives.
Minister Fidan and Foreign Secretary Cooper affirmed that this newly established framework serves as a comprehensive roadmap for long-term dialogue between Ankara and London.
In a joint statement, the two leaders praised their “historic friendship” and “excellent bilateral relations,” emphasizing that the document provides a strong foundation for addressing global challenges.

They underscored a shared commitment to regional security, particularly regarding stability in the Middle East, while aligning their perspectives on a wide range of international issues.
A significant portion of the ministerial discussions centered on the role of NATO in the current geopolitical landscape. Both nations emphasized the necessity of a strong transatlantic alliance, highlighting that the alliance’s strategic concept of deterrence and defense will remain the essential basis for their joint efforts to ensure Euro-Atlantic security.
Officials also affirmed that the political and military cooperation between Türkiye and the UK remains vital for enhancing peace in Europe, especially as both countries navigate complex regional security challenges.

The agreement extends beyond core defense, as the framework encompasses a wide range of cooperation areas, from climate change and humanitarian development to advancements in science and technology.
Beyond security matters, the framework also seeks to strengthen economic ties, as both leaders ensured their mutual commitment to update the existing Free Trade Agreement a move aimed at reducing barriers and fostering joint economic growth.
The revised trade framework signals Ankara and London’s intent to strengthen commercial ties and enhance the investment environment.
It marks a step toward aligning bilateral priorities with broader strategic objectives, reinforcing a focus on shared prosperity alongside established security cooperation.
