Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump has said that Washington plans to remove Iran’s highly enriched uranium “in the near future” as part of ongoing efforts toward a broader agreement with Tehran.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Trump stated that the US would act in coordination with Iran to remove the material from what he described as “the ruins,” adding that both sides had discussed the issue during negotiations. He also claimed that Iran had agreed in principle, though he emphasized that different parties view the matter with varying levels of importance.

Trump said that discussions with Iran were progressing and suggested that a deal between the two countries could be close. He added that the uranium issue was one of several points being negotiated.

On regional tensions, Trump said he was attempting to keep the Israel–Lebanon ceasefire separate from the wider talks with Iran. He noted that Tehran had linked any broader agreement to a halt in Israeli strikes in Lebanon, particularly in relation to access to the Strait of Hormuz.

He also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling Israel a strong partner and suggesting that US support had been crucial in recent military developments involving Iran.

Separately, Trump criticized a US House of Representatives vote aimed at limiting presidential authority over military action against Iran, calling it “unpatriotic” and “meaningless.” He argued that the move came at a sensitive moment during ongoing negotiations.

Although largely symbolic, the vote highlights growing political debate in Washington over the president’s war powers. While it has not advanced beyond the House, it reflects unease among some lawmakers, including members of Trump’s own party, about the handling of the conflict. Earlier attempts to pass similar measures have failed by narrow margins.

In Iran, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged national unity in a message delivered during ceremonies marking the anniversary of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s death and a major religious observance.

He said Iran’s opponents, after setbacks on the battlefield, were now focusing on internal division and psychological pressure. According to his message, external powers were attempting to weaken public morale and create distrust among citizens and officials.

Khamenei described the United States-led system as unwilling to accept an independent Iran and referred to Israel as part of that broader geopolitical structure. He warned against actions that could fuel pessimism or internal discord, calling instead for unity, resilience, and vigilance among Iranians.
