Mississauga (TDI): The Mississauga City Council unveiled “Haroon Khan Trail” at Tillsdown Park, celebrating the lifelong contributions of Pakistani-Canadian social worker Haroon Khan.
The ceremony brought together political leaders, diplomats, and community members, reflecting the broad impact of Khan’s decades-long service. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada, Muhammad Saleem, was also present.
The newly named trail stands as a tribute to Khan’s enduring commitment to social work, particularly his efforts in supporting senior citizens and vulnerable communities both in Canada and abroad.

Over the years, he has been widely recognized within the Pakistani diaspora for fostering community cohesion and advancing humanitarian causes.
Speaking at the event, High Commissioner Saleem expressed appreciation to Canadian authorities for honoring Khan’s legacy.
He described the gesture as a reflection of the strong contributions made by the Pakistani-Canadian community to Canadian society.
Saleem also emphasized that such recognition strengthens the bonds between Pakistan and Canada, highlighting the role of diaspora communities in building cross-cultural ties.

Community leaders noted that the dedication aligns with Mississauga’s broader commitment to inclusivity and recognition of diverse contributions.
The city, part of the Greater Toronto Area, is known for its multicultural population, with South Asian communities playing a significant role in its social and economic fabric.
Public tributes like trail naming are a longstanding tradition in Canadian municipalities, often used to honor individuals who have made meaningful contributions at the grassroots level.

Members of Canadian Parliament – Iqra Khalid, Rechie Valdez, and Peter Fonseca, member of Provincial Parliament – Nina Tangri, Pakistan’s Consul General – Khalil Ahmed Bajwa, Mississauga’s mayor, and city councilors also attended the unveiling.
