No deadline if Taliban will not cooperate, Secretary Blinken

-

Washington D.C, 26 August 2021 (TDI): The US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken released a video statement in which he clearly stated that there is no deadline on their operation to help the US citizens evacuate from Afghanistan if the Taliban stopped cooperating.

He said that the US is working hard to complete its evacuation mission in Afghanistan by the deadline of August 31, provided the Taliban show their cooperation. The security of US citizens is their top priority. Those who want to leave Afghanistan should be made able to do so. He explicitly said that the Taliban must adhere to their commitment of providing a safe exit to all those foreign and national citizens aspiring to leave their country. But if they did not do so, there will be no deadline for the US. The American efforts “will continue every day past August 31”, he said.

The statement was made after the recent series of bomb blasts at the outskirts of the Kabul Airport where innocent Afghans and US citizens were killed.
