Beijing/Manila, 28 August 2021 (TDI): The President of China, Xi Jinping, had a phone conversation with his Filipino counterpart, Rodrigo Duterte, on Friday. The Presidents of the two countries exchanged views on subjects of common interest, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and BBB program. During the conversation, Xi Jinping attached a huge significance to Beijing’s relation with Manila. He said that in recent years progress has been seen in China-Philippines relations which has played a role in maintaining regional peace and stability.
For the future, the Chinese President expressed the willingness of China to partner with the Philippines and further enhance bilateral relations. In this regard, he offered his assistance to the Philippines in health and economic areas, which was welcomed by the President of the Philippines.
On the other side, Rodrigo Duterte praised the Chinese government for decreasing the poverty rate, wished Xi on the 100th anniversary of the governing political party, and thanked him for the provision of vaccines to Manila. Moreover, he agreed with Xi and said that China’s cooperation during the pandemic signals towards trustworthiness and friendliness of China.
