Beijing/Islamabad, 18 August 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi had telephonic contact with his Pakistani counterpart FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday. Both sides discussed the recent Afghan situation during the phone call.
During the phone call, both sides agreed to collaboratively play a role in the Afghan peace process and jointly work for ensuring peace in Afghanistan. The two leaders also agreed on the fact that peace in Afghanistan is very important for regional peace and stability.
FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi mentioned that being a part of the troika Pakistan and China have played a significant part in the Afghan peace process. FM Qureshi further added that the current situation in Afghanistan demands the protection of rights and security of the Afghan population in which firm support from the international community is essential and also highlighted that the international community should also have a sustained economic engagement with Afghanistan for the purpose of development of the state.
During the meeting, FM Qureshi also informed FM Wang Yi about Pakistan’s efforts in helping the staff of the diplomatic missions, personnel from IO’s and media personnel to evacuate from Afghanistan.‘ As Iron Brothers & strategic partners, Pakistan & China will continue to coordinate closely’, added FM Qureshi.
Both sides agreed to work together for ensuring peace in Afghanistan and FM Wang and FM Qureshi committed to remaining in constant contact to promote the shared objectives.
