Kabul (TDI): The interim Afghan government has said it will close all national and foreign nongovernmental groups in Afghanistan employing women.
The decision comes two years after Afghan Taliban told NGOs to suspend the employment of women, allegedly because they didn’t wear the Islamic headscarf correctly.
In a letter published on social media platform X Sunday night, the Economy Ministry warned that failure to comply with the order would result NGOs losing their license to operate in the country.
The ministry said it was responsible for the registration, coordination, leadership and supervision of all activities carried out by national and foreign groups, AP reported.

The government was once again ordering the stoppage of all women work in institutions not controlled by the Taliban, according to the letter.
“In case of lack of cooperation, all activities of that organization will be canceled and its activity license, granted by the ministry, will also be revoked.”
The Taliban have already restricted the employment opportunities for women and have barred them from most public spaces.
