Beijing, 8 September 2021 (TDI): Wang Wenbin, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, considers the formation of the Taliban interim government a “necessary step” towards the restoration of order and security in Afghanistan and the region.
In an answer to the question of recognizing and accepting the Afghan interim government, Wang reiterated that China would keep its cordial ties with Afghanistan and the leaders of the Taliban government.
On Tuesday, the Taliban stakeholders released a complete list of the newly appointed officials to resume the offices of the state.
China has been in support of the peace and stability in Afghanistan and has been investing heavy funds into BRI and other infrastructure projects. Wang also cleared out the air by stating that China respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity but the new Afghan officials should take into account the international standards of peace and security. The new interim government was said to have eradicated “anarchy” as said by a Chinese spokesperson.
China, Russia, and Pakistan kept embassies opened in Kabul during the Taliban takeover which actualizes the emerging cooperative framework in the region. China plans to keep its embassy open in Afghanistan and extend its humanitarian aid and other developmental projects.
