Dushanbe, 19 October 2022 (TDI): Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan participated in a High-Level International Conference.
The conference was titled “International and Regional Border Security and Management Cooperation to Counter Terrorism and Prevent the Movement of Terrorists”.The conference was held in Dushanbe on 18th October 2022.
An Overview of the Conference
The conference was organized with the collaboration of various renowned organizations including the United Nations (UN), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and the European Union (EU).
The primary agenda of the conference was to concentrate on the stigma of terrorism and to explore ways of countering and restricting the flow of terrorists and terror activities.
Vladimir Voronkov, Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism office inaugurated the event. High officials from member countries of the United Nations, and representatives of regional and global organizations participated in the conference.
Moreover, representatives of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Pact institutions, civil society organizations, and border security specialists joined and spoke at the conference.
Address of President of Tajikistan
Emomali Rahmon expressed a warm welcome to all the stakeholders in Tajikistan. He hoped that the conference will be fruitful in sorting out the issues of security, border management, and effective resistance to extremism and terrorism.
President described the phenomenon of terrorism as caused by a huge range of threats, challenges, and expansion of extremism. All these led to devastating consequences and the spread of transboundary and transnational terrorist activities.
He further stated that during the last two years, the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic further deteriorated the situation. Due to the restricted policies adopted by various states, confronting these threats became a more difficult task.
Such a situation allowed terrorists to increase their activities. It also interrupted the process of executing the 2030 Agenda and accomplishing SDGs in numerous regions.
Emomali Rahmon stressed the need for the development of innovative methodologies to counter the above threats collectively. He highlighted the contributions of Tajikistan in all global efforts to eradicate and deal with the mentioned dilemma.

The President also underlined the role of Tajikistan to deal with the complex regional situation by concentrating on strengthening the state border protection and taking essential measures to prevent cross-border terrorism and drug trafficking.
Tajikistan adopted the “National Border Management Strategy” in 2010 to fulfill the mentioned goal. Concluding his comments, the President wished success and good results to all participants of the conference.
