New York, 4 October 2021 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin had meetings with UN Secretary-General and UNDP Administrator. First of all, he met with the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.
The parties discussed issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and the UN. They discussed the political, socio-economic, humanitarian, and security aspects. Also, they discussed wide issues. It includes the joint fight against terrorism and extremism. The socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic along with climate change were also discussed. The Climate crisis and its impact on water resources were the main topics of the conversation.
The interlocutors focused special attention on the provision of emergency humanitarian aid to the population of Afghanistan. The Foreign Minister noted that Tajikistan recognizes an inclusive government that consists of all political and ethnic groups in Afghanistan. Parties stressed the need to enhance multilateral interaction.
Moreover, the Foreign Minister also held a meeting with the United Nations Development Programme Administrator, Achim Steiner.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the development of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the UNDP. The parties discuss the practical steps for the implementation of joint projects of this UN entity in Tajikistan.
Regarding the delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin stressed that the International community should provide direct humanitarian aid to the population of Afghanistan.
