Islamabad (TDI): Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has marked a major milestone in the country’s Human Spaceflight Programme with the successful completion of the secondary phase of astronaut selection.
Following an initial screening in Pakistan, two candidates have been shortlisted after undergoing extensive medical, psychological, and aptitude assessments at the Astronauts Centre of China (ACC), in line with international human spaceflight standards.
The shortlisted astronauts will now begin advanced training at ACC for six months. Upon completion, one candidate will be chosen to participate in a spaceflight mission aboard the Chinese Space Station (CSS) scheduled for October or November 2026.
This cooperation stems from the bilateral “Astronaut Cooperation Agreement” signed in February 2025, a milestone enabled by the vision and support of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The initiative also highlights the backing of the Government of China, which selected Pakistan as the first foreign partner in its astronaut programme.
