Sri Lankan President addresses UNGA 76th Session

New York, 24 September 2021 (TDI): The President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa addresses the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The President thanked and showed gratitude to everyone. He mentioned that he is honored to represent Sri Lanka on this auspicious day. He congratulated Abdulla Shahid on being elected as the President of the 76th Session of UNGA. Also, he looks forward to enhancing cooperation between Male and Colombo in the upcoming years.

Gotabaya mentioned that the Covid-19 pandemic had a devastating impact on humanity. He showed heartfelt gratitude to health care workers for their dedication. He also commends the World Health Organization for its crisis response. Furthermore, he appreciated the advances made in scientific and medical communities in devising vaccines.

He mentioned that there is a need to recognize the challenges regarding the deployment and distribution of vaccines. The President stressed that there is an urgent need to overcome challenges regarding the production and acceptance of vaccines.
