Sri Lankan Foreign Minister talks with Bangladeshi High Commissioner

Colombo, 9 October 2021 (TDI): The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, Ariful Islam paid a courtesy call on the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, Gamini Lakshman Peiris.

The Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka highlighted the significance Sri Lanka provides to enhance relations with Bangladesh, specifically economic ties. A wide range of bilateral, including tourism ventures, sharing intelligence in combating terrorism, and expanding trade relations were also discussed in the meeting.

The Foreign Minister extended greetings to Bangladesh for the support incorporation provided to Sri Lanka at the International forum, specifically at the United Nations Human Rights Council. Both parties underscored the need to work closely. This will provide both countries the benefits of trade pacts, particularly the apparel sector, at regional and international fora.

In the meeting, the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh coming next year has also conversed.
