Glasgow, 5 November 2021 (TDI): The President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in participated in the launching ceremony of the Global Methane Pledge.

The world leaders have gathered in Glasgow, Scotland for the COP26 to discuss Climate Change, measures to revert the effects of Climate Change as a result of carbon emissions and fossil fuels. The aim of the Climate Summit is to create awareness and adopt policies to save the Earth.

Due to the devastating impact of Climate Change, world leaders have urged for Carbon Neutrality. Global Methane Pledge is a venture to achieve that goal.

Moon Jae-in highlighted that by becoming a signatory of the Global Methane Pledge, states will cooperate. The cooperation will aim to reduce methane emissions by more than 30 percent; by 2030.

Korea, as a signatory will endeavor to domestically cut down methane emissions. As per the 2030 Nationally Determined Contributions goal, Korea plans to reduce emissions up to 30%.

The Korean President, whilst speaking at the occasion stated that his country will devise specific reduction plans. The reduction will encompass energy, waste, agriculture, livestock farming, and fisheries.

Furthermore, Korea is pursuing ways to gather methane from landfills and waste treatment facilities; to recycle it as energy.

Aside from the introduction of domestic policies, Korea will also assist neighboring states to reduce methane emissions.

Korea strives for a better world. Hence it will share policies, experiences, and technologies with the developing countries. Also, it will provide support to such countries.

In the concluding remarks, Moon Jae-in appreciated the US and EU Presidents for organizing the event. He expressed his optimism for future generations to create a green Earth.
