Seoul (TDI): South Korea’s ruling party leader announced his resignation on Monday after President Yoon Suk-yeol was impeached by the parliament last Saturday.
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, said in a televised media conference that he quit the post as the party’s supreme council collapsed with the resignation of its members, making it impossible for him to continue as the party head.
He apologized to all who suffered from martial law, which Yoon declared on the night of December 3 but the National Assembly revoked only hours later.
Han’s resignation came less than 5 months after he was elected as the party leader on July 23.
