South Africa addressed UNSC on CTBT

New York, 28 September 2021 (TDI): As Co-President of the Article XIV Conference, the Republic of South Africa addressed the United Nations Security Council at its conference on the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

The South African desk pleaded with the United Nations Security Council and all other members of the CTBT to take doable actions for the success of the Article XIV Conference. At the Article XIV Conference, all of the signing nation-states bind themselves for the promotion of the Comprehensive-Nuclear Test Ban Treaty at the highest political levels and do all the bilateral talks for the promotion of treaty in the global arena.

The South African desk demanded the world signatories of the treaty to do strong, actionable steps for early entry into force. Along with it, the South African desk at the United Nations Security Council also pleaded with the world community, especially the signatories of the treaty, to work for the Universalization of the CTBT.
