Secretary Blinken spoke with HCNR Afghanistan

Kabul, 05 August 2021 (TDI): Antony John Blinken, US Secretary of State spoke with Chairman of the Afghan High Council for National Reconciliation, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah today to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to seeking a just and long-lasting peaceful resolution that puts an end to the war in Afghanistan.

They discussed ways to speed up peace talks and achieve a negotiated solution that is inclusive, respects the rights of all Afghans, including women and minorities, enables the Afghan people to choose their leaders, and inhibits Afghan soil from being used to threaten the US and its allies and partners. It was also negotiated that Afghanistan would not become the safe haven for the terrorists.

Both leaders condemned the ongoing Taliban attacks, the loss of innocent Afghan lives, and the dispossession of civilians. He further emphasized the widespread international criticism of these attacks. Secretary Blinken and Chairman Abdullah agreed to keep in touch in the future as well.
