Tokyo: 5 August 2021 (TDI): Belgium won the Olympics men’s hockey gold medal against Australia. The game ended with a 3-2 penalty shootout after the match ended on a draw with 1-1 on Thursday. Belgium hockey men’s team had never won a gold medal in any Olympics. They won a silver medal at Rio Olympics 2016 and a bronze medal at Antwerp 1920.
The team won in the shootout and claimed the gold medal in the men’s Olympic hockey final. Whereas Australia won the silver medal. Both the teams Australia and Belgium topped in their respective pools and were unbeaten at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
It is the 2nd gold medal for Belgium at the Olympics 2020 as the 3rd was secured on the same day by the athlete Nafissatou Thiam in Women’s heptathlon.
