Second Berlin Conference on Libya

Berlin:  June 23, 2021 (TDI):  Germany and United Nations are hosting the Second Berlin conference on Libya.  Head of Libya’s Presidential Council Mohammed Al-Menfi and Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, as well as UN Special Envoy to Libya Jan Kubis and the Foreign Ministers of the participating nations, will attend the meeting.

The main aim of the conference is to stabilize the security environment and ensure peace in Libya. The summit’s primary agenda will be identifying measures to assist the Libyan government in holding elections on December 24 and carrying out the evacuation of foreign soldiers and militants from Libya, as agreed at the first Berlin Libya conference.

Last year the first Berlin Conference on Libya was also held in Germany where the representatives from 5 permanent UN members along with members from Italy, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the EU participated. It was considered successful as it achieved a lot ranging from the end of hostilities; to a successful ceasefire; the easing of the oil embargo; the creation of an interim government and the House of Representatives’ vote of confidence in Libya.

Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Libya, Morocco, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States will attend the summit. In addition, there will be delegates from the United Nations, the African Union, the European Union, and the Arab League.
