Shanghai Cooperation Organization: An Overview

The Presidents of Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan established the SCO at a conference in Shanghai in 2001. A political, economic, and security alliance in Eurasia is called the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

SCO covers around 60% of Eurasia, 40% of the world’s population, and more than 30% of the global GDP. This makes it the largest regional organization in the world in terms of both population and geographic scope.

The SCO is managed by its top decision-making body, the Heads of State Council (HSC), which meets once a year.
