Additionally, Presidents Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez of Cuba, Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, and Nursultan Nazarbayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan called Vladimir Putin on the phone.

The Presidents Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa also called.  At their casual meeting today, the presidents of the CIS nations also wished Vladimir Putin a happy birthday.

Birthday Gifts!

Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon gifted the Russian leader with multiple pyramids of melons. Furthermore, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko presented Putin with a gift certificate for a tractor.  In Belarus, tractors have been a foundation of the industrial sector for many years. Lukashenko claimed to utilize a tractor comparable to the one he gave Putin.

Two of Russia’s few surviving friends are Tajikistan and Belarus. All three of these states are members of the larger Commonwealth of Independent Governments. This Commonwealth is a grouping of former Soviet states that was established in the early 1990s.

Additionally, the trio makes up half of the membership in the regional military alliance known as the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

Lukashenko, particularly, is friends with Putin. Their friendship has occasionally even sparked worries that Belarus would take a direct involvement in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Putin’s enemies, in contrast to Lukashenko and Rahmon, did not celebrate his birthday with excitement. On the Russian president’s birthday, a number of Ukrainian authorities used social media to criticize his activities. Ukrainians blamed him for the mounting death toll in the war and rebuked the Russian leader.
