Tianjin (TDI): In the run-up to the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, a dedicated media center officially began operations on Thursday, welcoming both Chinese and international reporters.
This year’s gathering, taking place on Sunday and Monday, will be the largest SCO summit to date and the fifth time China has served as host.
According to Li Chunyi, who heads the summit’s information and public service team, nearly 3,000 journalists have registered to cover the event, around 1,900 from Chinese outlets and over 1,000 representing foreign media, China Daily reported. Li said the center aims to provide “comprehensive, high-quality services” throughout the summit period.

The facility, located at the Tianjin Meijiang International Convention and Exhibition Center near the main summit venue, covers 12,800 square meters. It is divided into eight sections that include press workstations, briefing halls, photo distribution areas, and real-time summit updates.
Interactive displays highlighting technology and culture, along with food services and shuttle transport for reporters, are also available.

To support the operations, close to 1,000 student volunteers from ten universities in Tianjin have been mobilized. Their responsibilities range from registration and logistics to assisting with press movements.
The media center will host six official briefings over the course of the summit. Representatives from government ministries, local authorities, and partner organizations will share updates on SCO activities and the outcomes of the meetings.
