Pakistan and Russia Relations
Pakistan and Russia share a complicated relationship throughout history. There have been ups and lows between the two countries. The Soviet Union, the predecessor of the Russian Federation, and Pakistan established diplomatic and bilateral relations in May 1948.
Pakistan’s position in the cold war and during the Afghan-Soviet war played a huge role in shaping the relations. In addition, Pakistan played a key role in allying to and supporting The West during this time period.
Recently, the relations have developed warmly since 2016. The Russian President congratulated Pakistan on its 75th Diamond jubilee anniversary on August 14, 2022.
