Vienna, 3 March 2022 (TDI): Representative of Russian Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Vienna stated that Russia has always advocated IAEA control mechanism to be depoliticized, objective, and technically sound.
Moreover, Russia supports a control mechanism that is based on relevant Agreements with States. He further stated in his tweet that the Russian Safeguards Support Programme established 40 years ago, is among key contributions to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In another significant development, China voted against Canada and Poland’s resolution on safety, security & safeguards implications of the situation in Ukraine, at today’s IAEA’s Board of Governors meeting.
Mikhail Ulyanov, the Permanent Representative of Russia to International Organizations in Vienna thanked his Chines counterpart for the country’s support. He stated that nuclear safety and security are vitally crucial hence should not be exploited for political ambitions.

Ambassador Mikhail Ulyanov also expressed his satisfaction after today’s IAEA Board of Governor’s (BoG) meeting about countries refusing to support the resolution which abuses the extremely important topic of nuclear safety and security for purely political purposes.

About the resolution on nuclear security submitted at the IAEA BoG meeting on Ukraine, he stated that it comprises deliberately politically motivated lies as well as mistakes.
During the meeting, it was stated that Russia is requested “to cease all actions against nuclear facilities,” To which the Russian Representative asked 3 times to provide concrete facts but received total silence in response.
