Prime Minister of Yemen met with P5 countries' Ambassadors and the UN Special Envoy for Yemen on Tuesday 21th.

Riyadh, 22 December 2021 (TDI): Prime Minister, Maeen Abdulmalek met with the Ambassadors of P5 Countries in Saudi Arabia. Besides, he attended a bilateral gathering with the Russian Ambassador, and the Swedish Special Envoy to Yemen, respectively. 

Prime Minister of Yemen in Saudi Arabia 

Previously to the Yemeni Prime Minister gathering with P5 heads of mission and the Special Envoy to Yemen, he met the Deputy Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia. Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalek headed to Riyadh in a short working visit to address solutions for the existing challenges in Yemen. 

During the ministerial meeting, both agreed with joint coordination in the political, economic, and military aspects. That is why, as Maeen Abdulmalek mentioned on his Twitter account, “Saudi Arabia is the best support and helps Yemen in various circumstances.” “We share blood and sacrifices with them in this fateful battle,” he added.

In this sense, the Saudi Minister, Khalid bin Salman, assured the Prime Minister of his government’s enthusiasm for reaching a political resolution to the conflict. Moreover, the Prime Minister of Yemen stressed the Coalition’s responsibility to unify national forces in light of the Riyadh Agreement.

P5 Countries Joint Statement

In this line, the Heads of Mission of the United States, Russia, China, France, and the United Kingdom, reunited with the Prime Minister of Yemen in Riyadh. They discussed the latest developments.

Consequently, the Ambassadors of the permanent members of the UN Security Council clearly expressed their opinion on the humanitarian crisis and the civil war in Yemen. In addition, they supported the Yemeni government in its national project to increase Foreign Direct Investment.

They welcomed the initiative that will bring more cash in the Yemeni market to provide economic stability in the country. The Ambassadors also applauded the international community for its dedication to back the Yemeni plan to reform key institutions and enforce their governability. 

One to One Meetings

On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Yemen participated in a meeting with Russian Ambassador, Vladimir Didushkin at the end of his term. Vladimir played a prominent role in strengthening diplomatic and historical ties with Yemen. In addition, the Yemeni Prime Minister and the Russian Ambassador agreed to promote the expansion of their horizons of relations.

In addition to that, Minister Maeen Abdulmalek participated in a meeting with the Swedish Special Envoy to Yemen, Peter Semneby. The latter briefed the Prime Minister on Sweden’s supporting role in achieving the path of peace and stability for Yemen.

In this regard, during the meetings, Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalek briefed his counterparts on the work of the Yemeni government. This is related to dealing with various military, security, economic, and service situations. He highlighted the government reforms in the financial sector to control the exchange rates of the national currency.

Finally, Maeen Abdulmalek rejected the continued escalation of the Houthi attacks in Marib, especially targeting Saudi civilian objects. In addition to that, the Prime Minister highlighted Yemen’s commitment to the duties of the Special Envoy for Yemen. He also highlighted the relevant role of the P5 for a political solution between the militia and the government.
