Paris, 11 November 2022 (TDI): Ambassador of Qatar to the French Republic, Ali bin Jassim Al Thani participated in the 121st session of the Permanent Council of Francophonie through videoconferencing.
The session took place in the capital of France, Paris on Thursday. The Gulf State of Qatar is one of the associate members of the Council, joining it in 2012.
The conference was held under the chairmanship of Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) Louise Mushikiwabo.

The conference aimed to discuss the preparations for the 43rd Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie on 18th November to be held in Tunisia. The draft agenda for the 43rd Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie was adopted during the meeting.
Louise Mushikiwabo also underscored the global situation while saying that peace and security are in turbulence. The Secretary-General also analyzed the security situation in countries like Burkina Faso, Mali, Lebanon, Haiti, and Tunisia, among others.
She appreciated the role of Qatar as a mediator between the Chadian government and the opposition political and armed groups while thanking the government.
She concluded the meeting with the assurance that the council will continue its efforts in maintaining peace among its member states.
Who is Louise Mushikiwabo?
Louise Mushikiwabo is the fourth Secretary-General of the Permanent Council of the Francophonie. She is from Rwanda and assumed office in 2019.
She formerly served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Rwanda from 2009-2018. Apart from this, she was also the Minister of Information and Spokesperson for the Rwandan government.
She has done her Master’s in Language and Interpretation with French as her specialist language from the United States of America.
What is the Permanent Council of the Francophonie?
The Permanent Council of the Francophonie or Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) is an organization of countries that speak the French language or have an association with French Culture.
The organization was created in 1970 with its headquarters in Paris, France. The council consists of 88 countries, among them 54 are full members, 7 are associated members and 27 are observers.
