Cairo, 26 July 2022 (TDI): The State of Qatar has participated in the Fourth Arab Regional High-Level Conference on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights that kicked off on Monday.
This year’s Arab Regional High-Level Conference is entitled “the impact of crises on human rights enjoyment: Covid-19 pandemic as a model.” The conference was held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, Egypt.

The Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Dr. Turki bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, headed Qatar’s delegation.
The Arab League and the Office of the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees (OHCHR) co-organized the conference.
The two-day conference intended to discuss the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic on human rights in the Arab region.
Moreover, the conference aimed at highlighting the efforts made by countries to reduce the consequences of the epidemic.
Additionally, participating states also diagnosed existing challenges and explored the broad lines for a future roadmap.

Impact of Crises on Human Rights
Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh gave the inaugural remarks.
The Ambassador said that it was essential to collate, study and analyze the remnants of the pandemic and to draw lessons to further build a future that ensures social and economic stability.
Furthermore, the Ambassador stressed the important role of civil society in contributing to efforts to establish peace and security.
Representatives from the United Nations specialized agencies were also in attendance. These included the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The Fourth Arab League Conference marks the 20 years of the signing of the memorandum of intent between the League of Arab States and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. On 17 April 2022, the two sides signed the memorandum of intent.
