Doha (TDI): President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Tajikistan in key areas such as trade, investment, connectivity, energy, defense, and people-to-people exchanges.
The President made these remarks during a meeting with Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar.
President Zardari highlighted that Pakistan values its multifaceted relationship with Tajikistan, emphasizing the shared history, cultural ties, and linguistic affinity between the two nations.
He noted that the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in 2024 marks a significant milestone in the growing bilateral relations, fostering cooperation across various sectors.

Zardari welcomed the resumption of work on the CASA-1000 project, a key energy initiative, which he described as a flagship initiative for shared prosperity and regional integration.
The two leaders discussed expanding trade and connectivity between the two countries, with President Zardari suggesting the exploration of new opportunities, including the potential restoration of direct flights between Pakistan and Tajikistan.
He also commended the success of the Dosti-II joint military exercise held in August 2025, reaffirming Pakistan’s readiness to continue supporting Tajikistan in defence cooperation and capacity-building.
During the meeting, President Rahmon extended an invitation to President Zardari to visit Tajikistan, which was warmly accepted by the Pakistani leader.

Both leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, reflecting their shared commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
The meeting was also attended by First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar, further underscoring the significance of this diplomatic engagement.
