Mumbai, 5 August 2022 (TDI): President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, toured Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai on Thursday morning on an official visit to India.

The President of Maldives and his delegation were given a briefing on the history and operations of the port facilities by the Chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Sanjay Sethi. After this briefing, the President had a guided tour of the port operations.

On this occasion, President Solih noted that the tour aimed to gain an insight into cargo handling operations at one of the most efficient ports in the world. The President also highlighted that the Maldives is in the process of relocating its main port to Male.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port, located in Navi Mumbai, is the busiest in India. The port accounts for around 50% of the total containerized cargo volume across the major ports in India.

During the three decades of Jawaharlal Nehru Port’s operations, the port has transformed from a bulk-cargo terminal to a premier container port in India. This port is connected to 200 ports in the world and is among the top 100 ports globally.
