Beirut, 10 February 2022 (TDI): President of Lebanon, Michael Aoun, received American mediator Amos Hochstein. Aoun briefed Hochstein about the indirect negotiations to demarcate the maritime borders in his proposals and the results of his contacts in Israel. Where Aoun declared: 

“We are ready to study the points that were raised, based on the desire to reach solutions to this file.”

Nevertheless, Aoun received on Wednesday along with the US mediator Amos Hochstein, the US Ambassador to Beirut Dorothy Shea, in addition to the assistant team of Ambassador Hochstein.

On the Lebanese side, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Abdullah Bouhabib, and the Minister of Energy and Water, Walid Fayyad attended. 

Moreover, former Minister Salim Jreissati, as well as Director-General of the Presidency of the Republic Dr. Antoine Choucair also attended. Also, advisers Rafik Chelala and Osama Khashab were present on the Lebanese side.

During the meeting, Hochstein briefed President Aoun on the results of the contacts he made in Israel on the issue of demarcating the southern maritime borders. 

Hochstein also presented suggestions that will be studied based on the desire to reach solutions to this file. Into this bargain, communication with the American side will continue to this end.

Similarly, President Aoun assured Ambassador Hochstein about Lebanon’s readiness to discuss the points he raised, which will be completed later.

On the other hand, they discussed with Ambassador Hochstein the role played by his country in helping to overcome the obstacles. These obstacles are described as the import of gas and electricity from Egypt, Jordan, and Syria.
