ISLAMABAD, September 9,2024 (TDI): On Monday, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian will visit Iraq on Wednesday in which both countries will sign memorandum of understanding (MoUs) on cooperation and security.
This is will be the first trip of Iranian president after taking charge of his office in July. The ambassador of Baghdad Mohammad Kazem-Al-Sadeh said that Iranian president is visiting Iraq at the invitation of Iraq’s Prime Minister.
He said that the both side will singe MoUs on cooperation and security. The accord were to have been signed during the scheduled visit to Iraq by Iran’s last President, Ebrahim Raisi.

Iran’s President after taking oath, has pledged to improve relations with the Islamic Republic’s neighbor on priority basis.
During the last two decades, the relations between Iran and Iraq, both Shite-majority countries have improved their relations.
Tehran is one of Iraq’s main trading partners and has political clout in Baghdad through both the government and its Iraqi allies who run the current government.

Both the countries signed security agreement covering the shared border in March 2023 after Tehran launched an offensive against Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq.
At the same time to disarm Kurdish tribes in Iran and to takeout them from the border region.
Tehran alleged the Kurdish group bringing arms from Iraq and instigated protests in 2022 that started after the death in custody of Iranian Kurd woman Masha Amini.
