Beijing/Lisbon, 28 August 2021 (TDI): President of China, Xi Jinping, and the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, had a phone conversation on Friday. The Chinese President informed his counterpart about the readiness of China on partnering with Portugal to cement the relations of the two states through developmental planning, enhanced cooperation, and market investment. He also appreciated the contribution and participation of Portugal in the Initiative on Partnership for Africa’s Development.
While highlighting global common challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, economic recovery, and climate change, Xi said that the world needs strong cooperation to deal with these challenges. He also told President Marcelo that China will cooperate with Portugal in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the last, he welcomed the Portuguese athletes to CHina in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games and hoped that Lisbon will work for promoting ties between China and European Union.
