New York, 22 September 2021 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine, Dr.Riad Malki addressed the international community at the UN General Assembly. The Minister is there to attend the 76th UNGA session.
Dr.Riad Malki talked about the Question of Palestine in his address. According to him, the Palestine issue has been the longest-standing unresolved issue. It is necessary to embrace measures to end Israel’s illegal occupation. The occupation is a blatant violation of international law and ending it is non-negotiable. Israel’s unlawful occupation has been going on for 54 years, affecting the security and stability of the region. The injustice and violation of human rights committed by Israel should stop and the United Nations must assume responsibility. To reinstate stability, justice, and peace, the only way forward is to end the illegal occupation of Palestine by Israel.
The Minister denounced the narrative promoted by Israel of peace being unattainable. He reiterated that it is imperative to establish peace in the region by rejecting the Israeli narrative. The only way forward is adherence to international law, protection of human rights, and equality. The Minister said that the resolution of the Palestine question is already given through international consensus. Unfortunately, the absence of political will to resolve the issue has prolonged the plight of the Palestinian people.
