Georgetown, 3 May 2024 (TDI): The State of Palestine has signed four cooperation agreements with the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
These bilateral agreements include strengthening the general cooperation framework, health, agriculture, and political consultation agreement.
Under the directives of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Muhammad Mustafa, efforts have been made to gain more recognition for the State of Palestine.
In implementation of these directives a Palestinian delegation made an official tour in a number of Caribbean Basin countries.
This delegation includes Ambassador Linda Sobh, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Caribbean countries, and Ambassador Imad Al-Zuhairi, Director General of the Palestinian International Cooperation Agency.
Absolute support from Cooperative Republic of Guyana
The delegation began its first stop in the Republic of Guyana by meeting with the Guyanese President Irfaan Ali.
The Guyanese President affirmed his country’s continued support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, he emphasized their absolute support for all initiatives of the State of Palestine on the international scene.
Particularly, these initiatives include the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state and its full membership in the United Nations.

The Guyanese Premier also stressed that his government will continue to coordinate with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the international community to push for a ceasefire.
Moreover, he reiterated his government’s support to ensure immediate and urgent relief efforts in the occupied territories of the State of Palestine, especially in the Gaza Strip.
Lastly, he highlighted that his administration shall work with the countries that have not yet recognized the Palestinian State to ensure their recognition is obtained at earliest.
The Palestinian delegation also held important meetings with Guyanese Prime Minister Mark Phillips.
During the meetings, they informed the Prime Minister regarding latest developments on the ground and genocide to which Palestinian people are exposed.
In turn, the Prime Minister affirmed his country’s absolute support for the just cause of Palestinians.
The delegation later met with the Guyanese Parliament Speaker Manzour Nader and briefed regarding the genocide committed by Israel, the occupying power against Palestinian people.
In line with this, the delegation also met with the Guyanese Minister of Natural Resources.
Later, it met the representatives of Islamic community, the schools they supervised and student representatives at Guyanese universities.
Lastly, they also met with representatives of the private sector and businessmen to encourage cooperation with their Palestinian counterparts.
Token of Appreciation for Barbados
In its second stop, the Palestinian delegation will head to Barbados to meet with Prime Minister Mia Mottley. Barbados has recently recognized the State of Palestine.
The visit aimed at expressing appreciation on the behalf of the President, Prime Minister and Palestinian people for recognizing State of Palestine.
Moreover, the visit is admittance towards enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
