Islamabad (TDI): Kuwait has agreed to explore new opportunities for developing strategic petroleum storage facilities in Pakistan, according to a statement from the Petroleum Division.

The initiative is expected to strengthen energy cooperation and create mutual benefits for both countries. The understanding was reached during a meeting in Islamabad between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi. Both sides discussed ways to deepen collaboration in the energy and petroleum sectors, particularly in refining and storage infrastructure.

Officials noted that the talks also covered broader regional developments and energy security challenges. Both countries expressed their intention to further strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of shared interest.

During the meeting, the petroleum minister thanked the Kuwaiti government for facilitating the safe delivery of the vessel Khairpur, which recently arrived in Pakistan carrying fuel supplies during a difficult period. The shipment included around 45,000 tonnes of diesel and 10,000 tonnes of jet fuel, arranged under special approvals after disruptions linked to regional maritime tensions.

The minister highlighted that coordinated efforts between the two governments ensured the successful completion of the supply mission, helping stabilize Pakistan’s fuel availability and meet national energy needs.

He also referred to wider regional instability, noting that disruptions in key maritime routes had created global fuel supply pressures affecting several countries, including Pakistan. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
