Islamabad, 24 March 2022 (TDI): Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Sohail Mahmood held a meeting with Mansour Ali Saeed Bajash, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Yemen.
The meeting was held at the Foreign Office. During the meeting, the two officials deliberated upon bilateral ties along with exchanging views on issues of joint interest.
Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance regarding its longstanding relations with Yemen that stem from mutual trust and collaboration.
He underscored the necessity for steady partnership between the two nations at multilateral platforms, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) & the United Nations (UN).
In addition, Sohail Mahmood expressed concern about the prevalent security situation in Yemen. He condemned the terrorist attacks perpetrated by the Houthi militias, on behalf of Pakistan.
Along these lines, he reiterated Pakistan’s support for a peaceful resolution of the Yemen conflict as per the applicable UN Security Council as well as OIC resolutions.
Whilst Deputy Foreign Minister Bajash on his part communicated his government’s gratitude, during the meeting, for Pakistan’s support. He conveyed confidence that Pakistan-Yemen ties would persist to thrive.
Furthermore, the Yemeni Deputy Foreign Minister also complimented Pakistan on successfully hosting the 48th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad. The session coincided with the 75th-anniversary celebrations of Pakistan’s Independence.
48th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of OIC
The 48th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Islamabad, Pakistan. The theme of the 48th CFM was Building Partnerships for Unity, Justice, and Development.
The Summit lasted for two days from March 22 to 23, 2022. The Session addressed multifarious topics as well as the activities of the OIC General Secretariat.
The agenda of the 48th OIC CFM was to evaluate the implementation of the resolutions adopted on various matters in the Islamic world. These include the issue of Palestine as well as Al-Quds Ash-Sharif, the developments in Afghanistan and their humanitarian consequences for the Afghan people, and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Likewise, several African issues, including the situation in the Republic of Mali, the Sahel region, and Lake Chad, the fragility of that region, and the situation in Central Africa and the Republic of Guinea were also discussed.
