Muscat, 27 December 2022 (TDI): The students of Pakistan finished second in the Huawei ICT Competition Middle East 2022. The announcement of Huawei’s flagship longstanding competition took place during a closing ceremony in Muscat, Oman.

Following several months of national and regional competitions between some of the region’s best young brains and academic institutions, the Team of Pakistan secured second position.

Now the team would flex its muscles in the Global Finals that will take place in Shanghai, China next year.

Muhammad Ali and Asad Anwer from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, as well as Maryam Fareed from Lahore College for Women University, made up the squad.

This year’s competition featured 15 teams of the best young digital talent from the Middle East and Central Asia. They were chosen from a pool of 19,300 applicants from 472 universities and 11 countries.

A Jordanian team comprised of students from Princess Sumaya University for Technology and Yarmouk University took home the first-place award of $20,000.

Remarks by Huawei Vice President

Vice President of Huawei Middle East and Central Asia Shunli Wang, in an exclusive interview, informed that the Pakistan team had consecutively been winning the Middle East Competition for the last three years.

He was optimistic that the Pakistan team could win the Global Finals. Wang praised the performance of the Pakistani team.

In this vein, he added, “12,000 students from 135 universities took the test from Pakistan. Whereas only 7,300 students from the other countries in the Middle Eastern & Asia region attempted it this year.”

“Huawei is committed to supporting and nurturing young ICT talent in the region. Through this mega event, Huawei aims to empower the youth to advance their ICT skills.

Hence they will contribute to the talent ecosystem, and support accelerating digital economies.” The Vice President reiterated.

He concluded that Pakistani students had good ICT knowledge and understanding, which is why they were confidently succeeding in the global technology market.
