Over 600 Chinese Universities Introduce Cybersecurity

Beijing, (TDI): China has released the “Cybersecurity Industry Talent Development Report 2024,” highlighting a rising demand for cybersecurity professionals as the industry increasingly relies on younger talent.

The report reveals that over 600 universities in China now offer majors related to cybersecurity.

With small and medium-sized companies entering the digital transformation phase, there is an expanding need for cybersecurity operations.

As industries continue to digitalize, the report notes that cybersecurity risks are increasing for both companies and individuals, creating a significant demand for cybersecurity expertise.

Growing Importance of Cybersecurity

By June 2024, 626 universities in China had established cybersecurity-related majors, signaling the growing importance of cybersecurity education in the country’s higher education system.

Courses in these programs range from cryptography and computer operating systems to web security and privacy.

The report also shows that the number of cybersecurity professionals under the age of 30 is rising, making them the backbone of the industry.

Duan Pingxia, executive director of the China Cybersecurity Industry Alliance, emphasized the impact of this young talent influx on driving the sector forward.

Additionally, the report found that cybersecurity positions account for a significant share of job postings, with increasing recruitment demand for data security professionals characterized by high standards and specialized requirements.
