New York City, 9 September 2022 (TDI): After several weeks of discussions and negotiations on “Our Common Agenda”, the UN Youth Office’s resolution has finally been approved.
President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Abdullah Shahid announced.
Furthermore, the execution of the numerous recommendations in the Secretary General’s “Our Common Agenda” report begins with greetings to all. This has been shared in a tweet by UNGA President, Abdullah Shahid.
Today, after months of consultations and negotiations the resolution for the creation of the UN Youth Office has been adopted!
This kicks off the implementation of the series of proposals in the Secretary General’s #OurCommonAgenda Report.

The UN Foundation and a network of partners provided support for the UN Secretary-landmark General’s report, Our Common Agenda.
Moreover, this report assisted in fostering contributions from the UN Member States, influential figures from around the world, rising stars, activists, and a variety of voices from the public and private sectors.
The COVID-19 epidemic has proven as a wake-up call, and with the impending climate disaster, the world is currently undergoing its biggest joint test ever since Second World War.
Our Common Agenda: The Purpose
Our Common Agenda offers a way forward centered on a renewal of a social contract. This is in more solidarity with the youth and future generations. Also, a new global agreement at a time when humanity must choose between breakdown and progress is a part of this agenda too.
Adding to that, it is an action plan created to reinforce and advance international accords, particularly the 2030 Agenda, and significantly improve the lives of people.
Besides this, Our Common Agenda makes recommendations in four key areas. These are new social contracts based on human rights and better management of vital global commons.
Moving ahead, the area of provision of universal public goods that are equitable and sustainable for all is also on the agenda.
Apart from this, the Secretary General’s vision for the future of international cooperation through open, integrated, and successful global cooperation is presented in Our Common Agenda.

UN Youth Office
The Youth Office will be leading the charge in involvement and advocacy for the advancement of youth issues throughout the United Nations. This work on the areas of peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights.
Along these lines, the office is expected to promote meaningful, inclusive, and effective engagement of youth. Hence, youth-led and youth-focused organizations in the work of the global body, according to the resolution will be adopted without a vote.
