Lima, 5 October 2022 (TDI): The 52nd OAS General Assembly Session will be held in Peru from October 5-7 under the administration of Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro.
Luis Almagro arrived in Peru for attending the OAS session. In his meeting with the President of Peru, Pedro Castillo, matters of mutual concern were discussed including human and food security.
Along with the Secretary-General OAS, the Under Secretary General of United Nations (UN) for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas, Miroslav Jenca also met with the President of Peru.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General OAS highlighted the compliance of the Peruvian government with the principles of OAS to conduct dialogues with other powers of the State to achieve stability in the democratic system.
The OAS General assembly session in Peru is held for the third time before it was in 1997 and 2010.
Organization of American States (OAS)
OAS is an international organization founded in 1948 for cooperation among its member states within the Americas. The headquarter of the organization is located in Washington D.C. the organization has 35 member states that are independent countries of the region.
The head of the organization is the Secretary-General; the incumbent is the Uruguayan Luis Almagro.

The main purpose of the organization is to strengthen the security of the continent through the promotion of peace. Moreover, cooperation in economic, social, and cultural sectors among the states, is of prime importance as well.
OAS General Assembly
The general assembly of OAS is the main organ of the organization. It comprises the delegations of all member states that are headed generally by the Foreign Ministers. The general assembly has met annually since 1971.
Each member state has one vote to cast and traditionally the resolutions are adopted by consensus. The policies of OAS, mandates, and the structure of other organs, are defined by the assembly.
