Kuala Lumpur, 5 October 2022 (TDI): The Republic of Turkiye demonstrated interest to expand mutual relations with Malaysia.
The speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly along with a parliamentary delegation met with the king of Malaysia Sultan Abdullah. The representatives met on 5th October, at Istana Negara Royal Palace, located in Kuala Lumpur.
This is the first official visit of Mustafa Sentop to Malaysia. Azhar Azizan Harun, the speaker of the parliament of Malaysia invited him for this working visit. Both counterparts also met with one another. The head of parliament’s upper and lower houses of Malaysia also accompanied. The negotiators discussed the developing mode of a partnership between the two states.
Mustafa Sentop expressed that he was eager to observe the development of common will between the two countries, regarding the expansion of inter-parliamentary partnership and cooperation.
He further stated that Turkiye wanted to develop the bilateral trade volume between the two states in a balanced way. He intended to evolve and strengthen collaboration in every field with high-level and technical visits.
Mustafa Sentop appreciated the kind hospitality and warm welcome that his delegation received in Malaysia. He hoped that the meeting will bring fruitful outcomes and contribute positively to increasing mutual relations.

Diplomatic Relations between Turkiye and Malaysia
Turkiye and Malaysia are considered progressive states in the global community. The two countries have diverse cultural values and legacies. Both vested shared perspectives on various regional and global matters.
The diplomatic partnership between the two states commenced in 1964. With time, both stakeholders further deepen their mutual ties. Both had signed a free trade agreement in 2014. The agreement was enforced in 2015. It was the first-ever deal, Turkiye signed with any of the members of ASEAN.
The two states enjoyed resilient political and economic ties. The high officials from both states paid frequent visits to each other. These visits are signs of the growing political, economic and cultural partnership between Malaysia and Türkiye.
