Islamabad, 5 October 2022 (TDI): Pakistan congratulates the people of Tajikistan on the occasion of the Day of the State Language. The Republic of Tajikistan celebrates the day every year on 5 October.

istory of Day of State Language

Tajik gained the status as a state language on July 22, 1989, with the passage of the Law “On Language.” Therefore, Tajikistan named July 22 the “Day of the State Language”.  The country commemorated the day on 22 July from 1990 until 2009.

The modified law was enacted on October 5, 2009, and the country started to mark Language Day in October. State Language Day is an official holiday in the Republic of Tajikistan.

The law was modified because the event fell during the summer break, and it was not possible to fully commemorate State Language Day in schools and other educational institutions.

Tajik is Tajikistan’s official language, and it is used in all aspects of the country’s political, social, economic, and cultural life. Tajik citizens aim to master the national language. It includes a variety of Persian languages.

State Language Day is celebrated with a variety of activities and events. It is worth mentioning that it falls on President of Tajikistan Emomalii Rahmon’s birthday.

Pakistan–Tajikistan Relations

Looking back at the history of Pakistan-Tajikistan ties, Pakistan was one of the first nations to recognize Tajikistan when the Soviet Union collapsed. Since 1992, the two nations have maintained diplomatic ties.

Many Tajik refugees arrived in Pakistan via Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan conflict and in 1992 when Tajikistan experienced post-independence political upheaval and civil conflict.

Tajikistan is geographically near to Pakistan. There is barely fourteen kilometers distance. Around 1.2 million Tajiks have settled in Pakistan.
