Norway raises concern about Afghanistan at UNSC

New York, 18 August 2021 (TDI): In the UN Security Council meeting held in New York on Monday, Deputy Permanent Representative of Norway, Odd-Inge Kvalheim, took note of the serious situations in Afghanistan. The country has faced a crisis in recent weeks as the Taliban have taken the reins of the Afghan Government. The situation in Afghanistan is volatile to violence, humanitarian concern as well COVID 19 pandemic.

The Deputy Representative also said that the Security Council and the international community must share responsibilities, duties, and concerns for the Afghan people. In the coming days, weeks, and months, the Taliban will be judge not by their words but by their actions. Furthermore, the Deputy Representative said that the Taliban will be held accountable for respecting international humanitarian law and the human rights of all Afghan children, women, and men.
