Sofia, 18 August 2021 (TDI): The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has expressed concern about the situation of the Afghan people. The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry supported the appeal of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres over the current situation in Afghanistan. The meeting called for the protection of the Afghan people and the protection and respect for human rights in Afghanistan, especially for women and girls.
The UN Security Council held its meeting on Afghanistan, as the country saw a tectonic shift in a political and social situation over the weekend when the Taliban entered Kabul. UN Secretary-General Guterres called on the Council to act in unison to ensure respect for human rights, to continue humanitarian aid, and to prevent the country from becoming another platform for terrorism.
According to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, the country will always remain diligent when needed and will assist in the efforts of the Security Council and the international community to provide security, civil protection, and humanitarian assistance to the civilian population of Afghanistan.
