Managua, 1 October 2022 (TDI): In a latest development, Nicaragua has severed all diplomatic ties with the Netherlands. Tensions rose after the Netherlands informed Nicaragua that it won’t be supporting a long-promised hospital.

Consequently, Nicaragua terminated all diplomatic ties with the Netherlands on Friday, according to a government statement. This came just hours after the Central American country denied entry to the incoming US Ambassador.

The Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry announced in an official statement that the government has decided to “immediately cease diplomatic relations” due to the Netherlands’ “continuous meddling” and “interventionist and neocolonialist” stance.

The statement further claimed that the European country “offended and continues to insult Nicaraguan families.” Tensions between the countries escalated subsequent to Christine Pirenne, notifying Nicaragua that the Netherlands will not pay for a hospital as promised years ago.

Christine Pirenne is the Dutch Ambassador to Central America. President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega claims that she came to speak to “Nicaraguans as if Nicaragua were a Dutch colony.”

He further stated that “Those who visit and disrespect our people and our country shouldn’t return to Nicaragua. We also don’t want to have any dealings with that interventionist administration.”

Earlier on Friday, Nicaraguan Vice President; Rosario Murillo who is also the wife of Daniel, claimed that US Envoy to the Central America country, Hugo Rodriguez would not be granted entry.

She stated that “Let the imperialists know that.” Nicaraguan government stated that it withdrew its approval for the incoming Ambassador after he made “disrespectful” remarks.

Ambassador Hugo had called Nicaragua a “pariah state.” He had also labeled Ortega’s government a “dictatorship.”

Aside from this, the Central American country on Wednesday declared the European Union (EU) Ambassador “persona non grata.” Ambassador Bettina Muscheidt was declared as such without disclosing a reason.
