Netherlands Minister speaks with Commissioner UNHCR

Amsterdam, 21 August 2021 (TDI): Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Netherlands, Tom de Bruijn held a video call with the Commissioner of UNHCR, Filippo Grandi on Friday. The main topic of discussion was the situation in Afghanistan.

The Netherlands Minister claimed that the country is a committed member of the UNHCR activities and the Netherlands will continue its mission of humanitarian aid during the current situation on the ground.

The aim of the Netherlands is to evacuate around 1000 people including employees of the embassy, translators, and their families. The evacuation effort on Tuesday failed due to the chaotic situation at the airport. But on Wednesday, Netherlands claimed to have a successful evacuation attempt to evacuate around 50 people including 35 Dutch citizens, 16 Belgians, 2 German, and 2 British Nationals safely from Kabul.
